Burger Chain Takes Patriotic Action and Draws Big Praise

Steak ’n Shake is going big — and patriotic.

The iconic burger chain announced Saturday that it has started installing massive American flags at every restaurant across the country.

“The flag installations have begun at Steak ’n Shake,” the company posted on X, alongside a photo of employees standing proudly beneath one of the towering flags. “Every Steak ’n Shake is getting the tallest and biggest American flag that local governments will allow! Steak ’n Shake proudly supports American values and traditions.”

The Indianapolis-based company’s post has already racked up more than 650,000 views and an outpouring of praise from customers.

“Your marketing team deserves a raise!” one X user said. Another wrote, “If you’re looking for new customers, you’re doing it right!”

“Looks like I’ll be eating more Steak ’n Shake,” one person commented. “Thank you for being pro-America.” Others chimed in with messages like “Quickly becoming my favorite restaurant,” and “You are becoming iconic… very, very quickly!”

One user even shared, “My first job as a 16-year-old. Couldn’t be more proud. Awesome!”

Founded in 1934, Steak ’n Shake operates in several states, including Texas, Florida, Illinois, Missouri, Georgia, North Carolina, and Ohio.

The patriotic move follows a recent streak of bold statements from the brand celebrating tradition and heritage. Earlier this year, the chain took a swipe at Cracker Barrel for changing its logo, saying, “Heritage is what got Cracker Barrel this far, and now the CEO wants to just scrape it all away.”

“At Steak ’n Shake, we take pride in our history, our families, and American values,” the company wrote. “All are welcome. We will never market ourselves away from our past in a cheap effort to gain the approval of trend seekers.”

Steak ’n Shake has also made headlines for its menu overhaul, switching from seed oils to beef tallow for cooking — a move that even earned praise from Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

“Tallow Fries now in Ohio, Colorado, Florida, Texas and Oklahoma,” the company posted in February. “By March 1 ALL locations. Fries will be RFK’d!”
