Country Music Star Chosen to Sing National Anthem at Super Bowl

Country music queen Reba McEntire is set to rock Super Bowl LVIII! She'll belt out the National Anthem in Las Vegas this February. It's NFL's best clashing in Sin City.

Thursday brought a big reveal. The NFL and Roc Nation announced the lineup on X. It's a star-studded affair with 68-year-old Reba leading the charge. She's singing "The Star Spangled Banner". Joining her? Post Malone with "America The Beautiful" and Andra Day's "Lift Every Voice and Sing."

Reba's over the moon! She shared her excitement on social media. "Honored to be part of something so big and historic," she says.

She's a country icon, after all. Three Grammy wins and decades of chart-toppers. Think "Fancy," "Is There Life Out There," and "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia."

CBS Mornings got the scoop. Reba needed a moment to decide on the Super Bowl gig. But her boyfriend, Rex Linn, didn't hesitate. "Yes she'll do it, absolutely!"

Last year, it was Usher headlining the halftime show. This announcement followed Rihanna's controversial Super Bowl LVII performance.

Rihanna faced backlash for apparent lip-syncing. Fans called it the "worst ever" on X. The New York Post highlighted her floating stage antics. Critics were unforgiving. "Why bother doing the halftime show if you’re not even gonna try and lip sync," one person said. "Amazing how Rihanna is able to keep singing even when she puts the mic aside," another added.

But not all performances stirred controversy. Chris Stapleton's 2023 "The Star Spangled Banner" was a hit. It struck a chord, winning widespread praise.
