Daughter of MLB Hall of Fame Pitcher Allegedly Left Newborn Child in the Woods on Christmas

Alexandra Eckersley, the 26-year-old adopted daughter of MLB Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley, was arrested on Monday and charged with several crimes, including reckless conduct, assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and falsifying physical evidence. These charges stem from an incident on Christmas Day in which Eckersley gave birth to a son in the woods and abandoned the child.

The Manchester Police Department in New Hampshire announced Eckersley's arrest and stated that she intentionally misled authorities as to the location of the child.

"Manchester Police and Fire and American Medical Response personnel searched the area where the mother of the baby directed them, however they were unable to locate the child," the statement read.

"After nearly an hour, the mother revealed the true location of the baby and led officers to the area. There, officers located the baby who was treated by EMT’s and transported to a local hospital for treatment."

On December 26th, police received a call about Eckersley, who was reportedly homeless, and responded to the area near West Side Arena around 12:40 a.m. The child was discovered in a tent just off a footpath and was described by first responders as "moving, not crying, and exposed," according to Manchester's WMUR-TV.

At the time of the incident, the temperature was reportedly around 18 degrees Fahrenheit.

Manchester Police Chief Allen Aldenberg told CBS News, "If we had not located the child when we did and provided the first aid that was given, I am confident that the child would have died in the tent."

According to an affidavit obtained by Boston Fox affiliate WFXT, Eckersley told EMTs that "she had no idea she was pregnant and that she felt she had to use the bathroom."
