Finally! House Votes to Send Impeachment Articles to Senate for Trial

Finally! After dragging their feet for weeks, the House passed a resolution on Wednesday evening to send the articles of impeachment to the Senate for trial. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also announced that the House Democrats’ impeachment managers would include Jerry Nadler and Adam Schiff.

Pelosi also attacked Senate Republicans, stating that their attempt to dismiss the trial against President Trump is a “cover up.”

“Dismissal is cover-up,” she said.

Breitbart reports:

The House passed H. Res. 798, a resolution that will appoint and authorize managers for the impeachment trial against President Trump.

The resolution passed on partisan lines, 228-193, with Republicans united against the resolution and Democrats in favor of the bill. Rep. Justin Amash (I-MI), a former Republican, voted in favor of the Democrats’ resolution.

The vote mirrored the House vote in December when the articles of impeachment were voted on the the first time. All Republicans voted against the impeachment, as well as Democrats Rep. Collin Peterson and Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ).

“Today is an important day. The emphasis is making the strongest possible case to protect and defend our constitution, to seek the truth for the American people,” Pelosi said during the press conference on Capitol Hill.

On Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said that “in all likelihood” the impeachment trial will begin next Tuesday.

“We’ll be able to go through some preliminary steps here this week, which could well include the Chief Justice coming over and swearing-in members of the Senate and some other kind of housekeeping measures…which would set us up to begin the actual trial next Tuesday,” he said.
