A Florida man is behind bars for allegedly shooting a Walmart delivery drone. The incident occurred in Lake County, deputies said.

Deputies were called to Walmart at 1450 Johns Lake Road in Clermont. Drone delivery representatives reported the shooting.

A representative explained that a two-man crew was conducting mock deliveries. These were to attract business and interest, according to an affidavit.

The Clermont man allegedly shot the drone, causing thousands of dollars in damage.

While the crew awaited a drone delivery's descent, they stood in a cul-de-sac. One of the reps heard a loud gun-like sound as the drone descended, deputies said.

The rep saw a 60-year-old white man in blue jeans and a blue shirt. He was holding a gun towards the sky and the drone.

The crew had the drone fly back to Walmart. After inspecting it, they found $2,500 worth of damage to its payload system, deputies said.

Deputies went to the home where the shooting happened. There, they met 72-year-old Dennis Winn.

Winn admitted to an incident with the drone. He said he fired at it because it flew over his home, an affidavit stated.

Winn claimed drones had flown over his home before, and he felt they were watching him.

Winn was arrested. He faces charges of shooting at an aircraft, criminal mischief with damage over $1,000, and discharging a firearm on public or residential property.
