Former NFL Star Opposes Banning Guns After Michigan State Shooting: 'Stop Blaming the Gun'

Marcellus Wiley, a former NFL defensive end turned sportscaster, has offered his perspective on the recent shooting at Michigan State University, which differs from the dominant narrative in the media.

Wiley acknowledges the prevalence of mass shootings in the United States, believing that even one such incident is unacceptable. However, rather than simply assigning blame to guns, he is encouraging people to focus on the individual responsible for pulling the trigger.

“We’ve got to stop blaming the gun and start looking at the humans and the individuals who are now responsible with those guns, and unfortunately, like incidents today [at Michigan State], irresponsible with those guns.”

“If you put a gun on a table, it does nothing,” Wiley continued. “It needs a human being to activate. It needs a human being to be that weapon of destruction."

Wiley further elaborated on his perspective, arguing against the notion of a complete ban on firearms. He believes that such a measure would only prevent law-abiding citizens from accessing guns, leaving only criminals with the means to obtain them, as they are not bound by the law.

Wiley's viewpoint is likely to provoke a strong reaction from many people, including his former employer, ESPN. However, he is not the only American who holds this perspective.

What makes Wiley stand out from others in his profession is that he's not afraid to stand up and say what he believes in.
