Former Trump national security adviser John Bolton has been indicted by a federal grand jury, according to CNN. The charges stem from an investigation into his handling of classified materials. FBI agents reportedly raided his Maryland home and Washington, D.C., office, seizing multiple documents marked as classified.
Bolton faces charges related to the documents probe and allegedly shared highly classified information with his wife and daughter, according to CNN. He has denied any wrongdoing and is expected to surrender to federal court in Greenbelt, Maryland, as early as Friday.
Bolton is now the third prominent Trump critic to be indicted in recent weeks. New York Attorney General Letitia James was charged last week with fraud for allegedly listing a Virginia house as her primary residence on mortgage documents while serving as attorney general.
James has publicly claimed she’s being targeted for political reasons. Her critics, however, point to her high-profile civil case against former President Donald Trump — which resulted in a $450 million judgment — as evidence of her own political motivations.
Former FBI Director James Comey was also indicted in late September on charges of making false statements and obstructing a congressional proceeding. He has pleaded not guilty.
“No one is above the law,” Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a statement following Comey’s indictment. “Today’s indictment reflects this Department of Justice’s commitment to holding those who abuse positions of power accountable for misleading the American people.”
