Home Depot founders Bernie Marcus and Ken Langone didn't pull any punches when it comes to how they feel about socialism and the politicians who back it. They made their feelings particularly clear about 2020 presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, while doing an interview with Neil Cavuto on Fox News Monday.
During the interview they discussed topics such as trade, the history of their company and even talked about tax policy. But when the discussion veered to Sanders and his socialist proposals things got very interesting.
“He is the enemy of every entrepreneur that’s ever going to be born in this country and has been born in the past,” Bernie Marcus said.
When asked what they would do if he was elected president, Marcus said while laughing, “Probably move to Australia. Well what could he do? I mean he can’t do anything to us. He’s going to affect my grandchildren.”
Cavuto tried to change the subject, but Langone wasn't finished going in on Bernie Sanders.
“I don’t know, but let me go back to Bernie Sanders for a minute,” Langone said. “Believe it or not, Chavez in Venezuela came to power through a democratic process. If the people in America today, the fellows out here with the hard hats on, if they want to know what the future holds for them, and they follow Bernie Sanders, go to Cuba, go to Venezuela, go to Russia, go to eastern Europe. Guess what? It doesn’t work. It never works.
“The average Venezuelan last year lost 34 pounds. There is no food out there,” he continued.
Langone was asked about President Trump's prediction that the market would collapse if he loses the 2020 election. Langone pointed out that he hopes Trump is wrong, but also said: “On the other hand, I think when you change the structure of what we are as a nation, it’s a risk. We may have a good shot of a severe economic downturn if the American people go in that direction. It’s what happened in Venezuela.”
