The New York Yankees paused before Wednesday night’s game to honor Charlie Kirk. The conservative commentator and Turning Point USA founder had been shot and killed just hours earlier during an event at Utah Valley University.
In a city known for its liberal politics, the tribute stood out. Fans were offered a chance to set differences aside and recognize Kirk’s role in shaping campus political debate.
“Before tonight’s game we held a moment of silence in memoriam of Charlie Kirk,” the Yankees posted on X. The message included a photo of the stadium jumbotron, which displayed his image.
The tribute noted Kirk’s work building the youth activist group Turning Point USA and his presence on college campuses across the country.

It also reminded fans of the personal side of his life. “Charlie Kirk, a husband and father of two children, was 31 years old,” the message read.
