Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville took a jab at the extreme left of the Democratic Party, calling them "stupid" and "naive" during his appearance on Bill Maher's "Club Random" podcast on Sunday.
"I find the left to be just annoying," Carville expressed to Maher. "The western far left is habitually the most stupid, naive people you can imagine. They come up with these really goofy constructs and it's all about feeling good about yourself."
Maher concurred, taking issue with progressives for expecting the world to revolve around their emotions. "If your feelings are hurt, that’s more important than free speech," he commented.
Later in the show, Carville circled back to his critique of progressive Democrats, suggesting they were a hindrance to the party.
Carville expressed his feelings about them as "annoying and silly" in response to Maher's jest about "pregnant men."
"Most people don't even know what they're talking about," Carville remarked. "The identity left are silly. They're not evil, they're just goofy."
The Democratic strategist opined that White liberals have appropriated the term "woke" to the detriment of the party's appeal.
"What happened is, overeducated, coastal White people, got ahold of the word and [like] they do with everything else, they completely f---ed it up and p----- everybody in the country off," he spoke candidly. "If we could just get the humanities faculty at Amherst [College] to shut the f--- up, we'd be a lot better off."
He pointed out that even though a mere 10% of the party self-identified as progressive, he believed they negatively impacted the party's image as a whole.
"The number of MAGA people is 65%. We pay a greater price for 10% of our party, than they pay for 65% of their party," Carville complained.
When Maher mentioned the increasing minority support for Trump, Carville responded by highlighting the perceived condescension within the Democratic Party that alienates voters.
"There is a certain coastal arrogance in this country, and people feel it," he said. "You got all these preachy people telling you what you should do."
Both expressed worries that President Biden might fall to Trump in the upcoming election due to worries surrounding his age.
"He will lose because at some point perception becomes reality," Maher said. "He cannot run for president, he'll look bad in the debates."
"He will be Ruth Bader Biden —it's not a good look," the HBO host said.
James Carville "Let's assume the election was November 3rd. Trump would be a betting favorite. Somebody better wake the fuck up"

Both Maher and Carville were of the opinion that a younger Democratic candidate would fare better against Trump.
Maher posited that any Democratic candidate in their 50s who wasn't "stupid" or "woke" would have a better chance than Biden. "Easily," concurred Carville.
A new CNN survey revealed that two-thirds of Democratic voters were looking for a different primary candidate.
"That's a big effing number," Carville noted.
