Kamala Harris Repeats Debunked Claim About Trump During Her First Campaign Rally

Vice President Harris fired up voters in a swing state Tuesday. She used her first rally since Biden's exit to repeat a debunked claim about Trump and abortion.

"We who believe in reproductive freedom will stop Trump's extreme abortion bans," Harris told a raucous crowd in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Harris has made this claim before, including in an X post. "Trump would ban abortion nationwide," she wrote. "Biden and I will stop him and restore women's reproductive freedom."

Her claim drew widespread condemnation. Users on Community Notes pointed to reports from CNN, BBC, and others contradicting her.

X CEO Elon Musk, a Trump supporter, accused her of "lying." "When will politicians learn lying on this platform doesn’t work?" he wrote.

Trump has said abortion limits should be left to the states. He posted a video on Truth Social detailing his position.

"My view is the states will determine by vote or legislation. Whatever they decide must be the law of the state," Trump said.

He suggested restrictions on abortion after 15 weeks. Harris spoke for 18 minutes, shorter than Trump's usual speeches, and stressed Wisconsin's importance as a battleground.

"The path to the White House goes through Wisconsin," she said. "To win, we are counting on you here in Milwaukee."

She praised Biden as an "incredible" president and said serving as his VP was "one of the greatest honors." She claimed his legacy surpassed two-term presidents.

"It is my great honor to have Biden's endorsement," she added. The loudest cheers came when she announced securing enough delegate support.

"I'm honored and pledge to unite our party to win in November," she said. She acknowledged she has "work to do" before the election.

Harris also tied Trump to the Heritage Foundation's Project 2025, calling it "extreme." Trump disavowed it as "ridiculous" and "abysmal."

Harris was briefly interrupted by a protester shouting about Palestinians. The individual was quickly escorted out.
