McDonald's Adds New Value Menu Item, Extends $5 Meal

McDonald's is rolling out a fresh value menu to win back budget-conscious customers. The new "McValue" menu launched Tuesday, offering a "Buy One, Add One for $1" deal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

To boost app engagement, McDonald's added exclusive offers like free medium fries with a $1 purchase every Friday in 2025. New app users can also snag a free McCrispy chicken sandwich.

Local franchisees are stepping in with their own deals. Popular items like the McGriddle are featured, alongside app-only discounts like 20% off purchases of $10 or more.

McDonald’s operates over 13,500 U.S. locations. In an October earnings call, executives shared plans to create a "holistic U.S. value platform" to stay ahead of competitors.

Traffic at quick-service restaurants has been declining as inflation-weary diners eat at home. CEO Chris Kempczinski noted this trend persisted in the third quarter.

Kempczinski admitted McDonald's "value leadership gap has shrunk." He emphasized the company’s urgent efforts with franchisees to improve value deals across key markets.

The new menu is cheaper than the $5 Meal Deal, which is being extended through next summer as part of the McValue platform. In October, CFO Ian Borden said the $5 Meal Deal had been a strong driver for restaurant traffic.

Borden highlighted its appeal to low-income consumers, saying it was the first time in over a year McDonald's gained traffic share with this group. The $5 deal includes a McDouble or McChicken sandwich, small fries, 4-piece McNuggets, and a small drink.

The "Buy One, Add One for $1" breakfast options include:

  • Sausage McMuffin
  • Sausage Biscuit
  • Sausage Burrito
  • Hash Browns

The "Buy One, Add One for $1" lunch/dinner options include:

  • 6-piece Chicken McNuggets
  • Double Cheeseburger
  • McChicken
  • Small Fries
