NBC’s Kristen Welker suggested Vice President Kamala Harris attended the dignified transfer of U.S. troops killed in Afghanistan. But this was incorrect.
Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., appeared on NBC’s "Meet the Press" and criticized both President Biden and Harris. He accused them of neglecting the families of the fallen soldiers.
"Joe Biden and Kamala Harris — where were they? Biden was at the beach. Harris was in D.C., just ten minutes away from the cemetery," Cotton said. "She could've honored those young men and women. She hasn’t. It’s because of their incompetence that 13 Americans died in Afghanistan."
Welker responded, "They did meet them during the dignified transfer. They were with them."
Later, NBC issued a correction on X, clarifying that they "incorrectly implied" both were present. In fact, only Biden attended.
At the event, Biden was seen "repeatedly checking his watch."
Former President Trump visited Arlington National Cemetery, honoring the Fallen 13 on the third anniversary of the botched withdrawal.
"The Trump team was very respectful," said Christy Shamblin, mother of fallen U.S. Marine Sgt. Nicole Gee. She appreciated their efforts to ensure the service went smoothly.
Shamblin expressed confidence that a second Trump term would be "better for veterans and their families."
The families of the 13 service members are still waiting to hear from Biden or Harris, despite their attempts to connect.
"At least Biden sent us a form letter," Shamblin added, feeling that the administration’s silence made their loss seem in vain.
