A spokesperson for the Musée Grévin in Paris responded to the recent uproar concerning a wax statue of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Over the past week, the figure attracted attention as fans pointed out that its complexion was noticeably lighter than Johnson's actual skin tone. Additionally, many remarked that the attire on the statue wasn't characteristic of what The Rock typically wears. The museum has since made updates to the statue's likeness.
In response to claims of “whitewashing” the celebrity, who is of Samoan heritage, Veronique Berecz, the museum's PR chief, refuted any malicious intent. “This has nothing do with it — we just made an honest mistake based on the photos we looked at,” she commented, as reported by Variety. “After we saw all these reactions on various blogs and social platforms, we altered it right away.”
The famous individual had earlier shared a video from a comedian commenting on the statue's look.

“Knew my boy [James Andre Jefferson Jr.] had this Rock wax statue in his roasting crosshairs,” Johnson wrote in the video caption. “For the record, I’m going to have my team reach out to our friends at Grevin Museum in Paris France so we can work at ‘updating’ my wax figure here with some important details and improvements — starting with my skin color.”
Berecz concurred with the "Black Adam" actor's viewpoint and believed his response was fitting.
“We found his reaction rather friendly when addressing the fact that his figure was indeed whiter than it should have been,” she said.
