The left is using the same fear tactics to avoid a DeSantis presidency that they used to rally the troops to vote against Trump in 2020. Vanity Fair published a "comprehensive guide" that described how a DeSantis presidency would be just as "terrifying" as if Trump were in office.
An article from a left-leaning magazine listed several reasons why they believe DeSantis should not be the next U.S. president, including his endorsement from Twitter CEO Elon Musk, alleged "bigoted policies," and perceived "authoritarian" actions. This article follows a trend of media outlets that strongly oppose Trump, who have also claimed that DeSantis is similarly problematic or even worse.
"Shouldn’t we be happy about the fact that, at the very least, he doesn’t seem like the type of guy who would Sharpie over a hurricane map to cover his own a-- or force people to think about what he gets up to in the bathroom? And the answer is no! We shouldn’t be!," Bess Levin wrote.

The political correspondent made it clear that her criticism of DeSantis did not mean she supported Trump, and went on to say that the world would be better off if Trump were to "never be heard from or seen again."
Levin presented 13 reasons why he believed DeSantis was an inappropriate choice for the position of U.S. president. These included allegations that DeSantis sees humans as mere "chattel," holds anti-science views due to his opposition to COVID-19 lockdowns, and suppresses free speech through the implementation of the "Stop WOKE act."
The article also accused DeSantis of "waging a war" on transgender individuals, lacking support for the Respect for Marriage Act, ignoring the issue of gun violence, and exhibiting bullying behavior.
Levin included an additional claim that DeSantis is an "awful person" based on the testimony of a former college teammate who had spoken with The New Yorker.
"Ron is the most selfish person I have ever interacted with. He has always loved embarrassing and humiliating people. I’m speaking for others—he was the biggest dick we knew." We’ll repeat that for emphasis: "He has always loved embarrassing and humiliating people," the former college teammate of DeSantis allegedly said.
According to a December national poll of Republican primary voters conducted by The Wall Street Journal, DeSantis would beat Trump by a significant margin in a potential 2024 GOP presidential nomination contest between the two most popular politicians in the party.
