Teenage Boy Dead After Gunfight While En Route to Middle School to do a School Shooting

A teenage boy was on his way to Dennis Middle School in Richmond, Indiana to do a school shooting, when he was shot and killed himself after exchanging gunfire with police on Thursday morning.

At a press conference the Indiana State Police stated that they received information that a teenager was on the way to Dennis Middle School to do a school shooting. This is according to a report from WFLD.

Indiana State Police Sergeant John Bowling said that they responded to the information very quickly and were able to confront the suspect outside of the school.

After an exchange of gunfire the teenager decided to take his own life.

“The fortunate part of this, if there is any, is that no students were injured, and no officers. And mainly because someone knew something and they said something,” Sergeant Bowling said. “They warned police and police were able to respond. The school was able to follow procedure to help protect students here.”

Late Thursday morning Governor Eric Holcoumb released a statement:

"Earlier this morning, I directed the Indiana State Police to work with all local responders at the shooting at Dennis Intermediate School. We will continue to work with the school and Superintendent Jennifer McCormick to do everything possible to assist the community and support all those impacted by this terrible unfolding situation."
