Houthi militants in Yemen say they’ve launched another attack on U.S. warships in the Red Sea.
They claim they hit the USS Harry S. Truman and other U.S. ships, according to a statement posted late Tuesday by the Jerusalem Post.
By early Wednesday, the group said they'd also used drones to target a U.S. vessel and Israeli military sites.
The Houthis have made similar claims throughout the month. They say it’s retaliation for U.S. strikes on Yemen. But they haven’t shown any proof.
Right before this latest claim, the U.S. military shot down several drones launched by the group.
Meanwhile, a strange twist unfolded behind the scenes. Trump officials were caught discussing an upcoming strike against the Houthis—in a Signal group chat that mistakenly included journalist Jeffrey Goldberg.
The chat was called “Houthi PC Small Group.” It included big names like Michael Waltz, JD Vance, Marco Rubio, Pete Hegseth, Tulsi Gabbard, John Ratcliffe, and Susie Wiles.
Goldberg said he got an invite on March 11 from what looked like Waltz. The group was talking about war plans. He chose not to publish specific details like weapon types or targets.
Goldberg also reported that Ratcliffe named a CIA undercover agent in the chat.
The White House confirmed the chat is likely real. Still, officials like Hegseth are trying to downplay it and discredit Goldberg.
“I’ve heard how it was characterized. Nobody was texting war plans, and that’s all I have to say about that,” Hegseth said Monday.
He also ripped into Goldberg, calling him “a deceitful and highly discredited, so-called journalist.” He accused him of spreading hoaxes, including the “Russia, Russia, Russia” claims and the “suckers and losers” story.
The White House says the attacks are about protecting trade and standing up to terrorists.
They pointed out that five of the top 10 Red Sea importers are in the EU. They also said the Houthis have attacked U.S. warships 174 times and commercial ships 145 times since 2023.
In response, the Houthis warned they’ll “respond to escalation with escalation.” So far, there’s been no follow-up action.
