Trump-Vance Campaign Makes Surprising Response to VP Harris's Invitation to Debate

Brian Hughes, senior campaign advisor for the Trump-Vance campaign, issued a playful response to VP Harris's debate invitation.

“We don’t know who the Democrat nominee for Vice President will be, so we can’t set a date before their convention," Hughes said in the campaign email. "To do so would be unfair to Gavin Newsom, JB Pritzker, Gretchen Whitmer, or whoever Kamala Harris picks as her running mate.”

Harris called Vance, chosen by Trump as his running mate on Monday, and left a voicemail congratulating him.

"Vice President Harris reached out to Senator Vance and left a message to congratulate him on his selection," a Biden campaign official told Fox News on Monday. "She welcomed him to the race and expressed her hope for a debate proposed by CBS News."

Vance says his mission as he delivers his acceptance speech on day three of the Republican National Convention is simple.

The 39-year-old senator from Ohio, named by Trump as his running mate earlier this week, will address the crowd Wednesday night.

He'll speak to roughly 2,400 delegates, thousands of attendees in Milwaukee's Fiserv Arena, and millions watching from home.

"We're gonna get out there and try to fire up the crowd tonight," Vance said at a financial event.

His prime-time address at the convention aims to energize the party.
