Walmart is updating its logo for the first time in nearly 20 years. The company says it’s a way to show growth while honoring its roots. The announcement came Monday.

The redesigned logo uses bold lettering and a darker blue, inspired by founder Sam Walton’s classic trucker hat. It keeps the iconic yellow spark, now with a subtle refresh.

“This update, rooted in the legacy of our founder, Sam Walton, demonstrates our evolving capabilities and longstanding commitment to serve our customers of today and tomorrow," said William White, Walmart U.S.'s senior vice president and chief marketing officer. He added that the new look combines a modern style with the company’s core principles.

Walmart says the refresh aims to build “credibility and connection” with its customers. "As our customers evolve, we will too," White added. "Our Walmart will always be their Walmart, and our brand will always be a testament to how we innovate and change alongside them."

The rollout begins in January 2025 and will continue throughout the year. The new logo will appear on the company’s website, app, and in stores.

The last logo update was in 2008. Back then, Walmart removed the hyphen and made the name one word while adding the yellow spark.

Walmart’s recent earnings show strong growth. Third-quarter revenue rose over 5% to $169.6 billion, beating Wall Street’s expectations. Adjusted earnings per share also exceeded estimates by 5 cents.

In the U.S., Walmart runs over 4,600 stores and employs 1.6 million associates. This doesn’t include the 599 Sam’s Club locations across the country.
