Walmart has faced a rise in theft due to self-checkout. The retailer took steps to prevent it. But the new policy caused nearly hour-long waits. Customers are frustrated.
To combat theft, Walmart began locking up everyday items. This is happening at select locations.
A TikTok influencer with 2 million followers, @camocamille, highlighted this in a video.

“Waiting 45 minutes at Walmart for hair dye with 6 other annoyed customers. Shout out to the girl I met,” they wrote.
“Looks like I'm not the only one tired of waiting,” Camo said, referencing a cursing shopper.
“Oh my goodness, what’s happening here? Walmart is a different world. Store closes in 20 minutes. Let’s see if I get help before they lock up,” said the TikToker.
They pressed a button repeatedly, calling for an associate. An automated voice promised someone soon. “Not fast enough,” said Camo.
Another shopper complained they'd been waiting for half an hour for a worker.
Camo spotted an employee and asked to unlock the cabinets. The response was disappointing. The worker was new and didn’t have the keys to unlock them.
Camo waited for about 30 minutes. "Still nobody," they noted. Even toothpaste and razors were locked up.
A Walmart customer recognized the TikToker. They were waiting on a pregnancy test.
Finally, an employee showed up to unlock the items. “F*** it. I’m opening every case,” they said, according to Camo.
