Oof. An MSNBC news anchor has apologized on Twitter after she can be heard saying what sounds like the n-word while reporting on the death of NBA legend Kobe Bryant.
Reporter Alison Morris can be heard saying, “It seems like he was just the kind of athlete, the kind of star, that was perfectly cast on the Los Angelos (n-word?),” she stuttered and corrects herself, “Los Angelos Lakers.”
The news clip immediately went viral as people assumed that she used the racial slur to address Kobe Bryant in his tragic death on Sunday.
She tweeted Sunday evening and said, “Earlier today, while reporting on the tragic news of Kobe Bryant’s passing, I unfortunately stuttered on air, combining the names of the Knicks and the Lakers to say “Nakers.” Please know I did not & would NEVER use a racist term. I apologize for the confusion this caused.“
Some Twitter users are accepting her apology and leaving it at a slip of the tongue. Others are still vilifying Morris.

In all honestly, I can understand the slip up. I, myself, tend to combine words when I am talking and thinking of two different things to say. Going back and listening to the audio again does sound like she says “Nakers” which sounds like an honest mistake.
Why else would she say such a derogatory word, especially while addressing the death of Bryant? It doesn’t add up.
