When asked about the pain at the pump, White House economic adviser Brian Deese responded by saying it's a price Americans have to pay for the "future of the liberal world order." This was during an interview on CNN Thursday.
"CNN Newsroom" host Victor Blackwell also played a clip of Biden telling a reporter at the NATO Summit that the high gas prices will last "as long as it takes" for Ukraine to get a win in the war with Russia.
Blackwell asked Brian Deese what he would tell Americans who are worried about their ability to afford $5 a gallon of gas for the next five years.
"The military analysts, the Director of National Intelligence say this can be a long war measured in years. I think everybody understands why this is happening. But is it sustainable? What do you say to those families that say, 'Listen, we can't afford to pay $4.85 a gallon for months, if not years. This is just not sustainable,'" Blackwell asked.
"What you heard from the president today was a clear articulation of the stakes. This is about the future of the liberal world order, and we have to stand firm," Deese replied. Social media was irate after this response.
