One of the biggest appeals of the United States of America is that the country is a melting pot....or at least that's how it has been portrayed for most of my life.
We accept all cultures, religions, races, and views. We are a melting pot of color and culture. That is why so many people want to come here, and it is all protected by our First Amendment right.
However, lately America has become more of a boiling pot. What do I mean by that?
I mean that we were once melting and mixing and blending into something beautiful. People were happy to share pieces of their culture with the rest of us. It was seen as a sense of pride and individuality. We welcomed others to taste what our culture offered and we gladly tried parts of other cultures.
Now, it is almost seen as a sin to participate in something that is not part of your culture. Oh, you braided your hair? Cultural appropriation. You have a tan? Cultural appropriation. You like rap music? Cultural appropriation. You dressed up as a Native American for Halloween? Cultural appreciation. It's never ending.
We are no longer a happy, melting pot but a raging, boiling pot that is too hot to even handle.
We need to turn the heat back down and stop being so soft!
