Arch Manning Breaks Family's NIL Rules by Singing Deals, But There's a Reason

Arch Manning, the high-profile No.1 ranked quarterback, will soon commence his second term at the University of Texas. Having enrolled early, he has acquired some on-field experience in the spring, although he isn't currently projected to secure a starting position.

Should Manning decide not to opt for a redshirt year, he will likely be the third-string quarterback.

Despite his current rank on the team, the prestige associated with the Manning name in the world of football significantly boosts his branding potential. As the premier grandson in a well-known football dynasty, he is recognized as one of the sport's most prominent names.

While in college, Manning has the potential to capitalize on his fame, potentially earning significant income. Yet, in April, Texas' head coach Steve Sarkisian stated that the standout freshman was currently declining any Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals.

In alignment with this, his family has concurred that he won't sign any NIL agreements until he has secured the starting position on the team.

However, there's a caveat to this previous stance.

On Tuesday, Manning revealed that he has inked his debut Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deal with Panini America, a renowned trading card company. Notably, Panini America recently brokered a similar contract with Quinn Ewers and has been associated with the Manning Passing Academy for some time.

The deal has led to Panini releasing an exclusive one-of-one black Prizm autographed card featuring Manning.

Currently, this card is being auctioned on Panini's website, and, at the time of writing, the bid has already surpassed $30,000. The auction will continue until Saturday, 8:00 p.m. Central Time.

However, there's an intriguing detail. Manning won't receive any earnings from the auction.

All the funds raised will be donated to St. David’s Foundation, one of the largest health foundations in the U.S., which provides support to a five-county area surrounding Austin.

There's also an added perk for the auction winner beyond obtaining the trading card.

In addition to the 1-of-1 Panini Prizm Throwback Black Autographed card, the winning bidder will also receive a special meet and greet experience with Arch Manning. They can catch passes with Manning and have the opportunity to be a part of the check presentation to the beneficiary of the funds raised through the auction. - Panini

Additional specifics of Manning's NIL agreement remain confidential. What is known, however, is that the freshman sensation from the Longhorns will be involved in marketing initiatives for Panini.

While Manning is not yet the starting quarterback at Texas, he has signed an NIL agreement nonetheless.

It's possible that the collaboration with Panini is designed to start reaping benefits once he secures the starting position. Alternatively, Manning and his family may have chosen to disregard the NIL guidelines that Coach Sarkisian declared during spring practice.
