Just a Day After Proposing a Ban on Assault Weapons Beto O'Rourke Makes Surprise Visit to Arkansas Gun Show

Beto O'Rourke Arkansas Gun Show

This guy just doesn't get it. Beto O'Rourke made a surprise visit to an Arkansas gun show just a day after proposing a ban on assault weapons.

The reason Beto attended the gun show was so he could talk to gun owners and vendors about his plan and possible solutions.

O'Rourke is responding to the event that went down in El Paso, Texas where a gunman opened fire in Walmart and killed 22 people while injuring many more. He initially paused his campaign briefly when this happened, but resumed things at this gun show in Conway, Arkansas.

The O'Rourke campaign released a statement:

"In order to make progress, Beto believes we have to meet people where they are, and not be afraid to have hard conversations with people who may not always agree."

According to a report from ABC, O'Rourke paid the $10 to get in and "walked through aisles lined with handguns, AR-15s, stun guns, hunting rifles, scopes, magazines and knives".

The 2020 Democratic hopeful also had some back and forth discussion with gun vendor Preston Linck. He asked Linck whether or not he would accept that vendors need a federal firearms license. He said he would accept that, but mentioned another issue.

"Just the only little problem I see is there's so many guns out there, even if you tried to stop selling, they're already out there," Linck said to O'Rourke, according to the ABC report.

"If you want votes, you're not going to get them by talking about taking this away from people. People are going to find a way to kill people," Linck said.

The NRA took a jab at O'Rourke when they asked him if he had taken a look at the polls:

O'Rourke has at least admitted that his plan is not "politically easy." It's also not possible. Criminals are not going to just hand over their guns. In fact, this will make it to where criminals have more assault weapons than anyone.

Say what you want about Beto, but it took some courage for him to walk in there a day after proposing more gun control laws.
