For years, Chick-fil-A reigned supreme as America’s favorite drive-thru. But a recent USA Today–commissioned poll reveals a new champion—Del Taco has now overtaken Chick-fil-A as the top chosen drive-thru chain in the country.
The survey, voted on by readers, ranks the most beloved fast-food drive-thrus nationwide. Del Taco celebrated its win, while longtime favorites like Chick-fil-A, McDonald’s, and KFC also made the top 10 list.
A breakdown of the top five drive-thrus:
- 1. Del Taco — Known for its tacos, burritos, homemade guacamole, and value-oriented Buck & Under and DEL’S REAL DEAL$ menus.
- 2. Jack in the Box — Gained ground thanks to its popular tacos.
- 3. A&W — Beloved for its iconic root beer floats.
- 4. Chick-fil-A — Known for its chicken sandwiches and strong fan loyalty.
- 5. Wendy’s — Noted for its fresh beef and witty social media presence.
Although Chick-fil-A has lost its top spot in overall preference, it continues to deliver excellence in drive-thru accuracy and satisfaction. According to Intouch Insight’s annual report, Chick-fil-A maintains a 92% order accuracy rate, topping the industry. However, its lines tend to move slower compared to competitors, largely due to high volume.
Adding to its efficiency credentials, an in-depth feature by Business Insider points to Chick-fil-A’s effective operational model: despite long lines, it averages $9.3 million in sales per standalone restaurant—more than double McDonald’s and nearly five times Taco Bell’s revenue. The chain credits its success to a highly trained staff and innovative drive-thru system where employees take orders directly at customers’ vehicles.
