CNN President Says He's Interested in Another Fox News Reject

CNN President

CNN President Jeff Zucker said he would be interested in hiring Shepard Smith whenever his contract with CNN runs out.

Smith spent 23 years with Fox News before leaving the network earlier this month. He is not allowed to appear on any network until his contract expires.

“I think Shep’s a great journalist,” Zucker said at CNN’s Citizen conference, per The Hollywood Reporter. “When he’s available, he is somebody who is very talented and I would be very open to talking to him.”

He was hired by Fox News back in 1996 as one of the original hires of the network. Before his departure he served as the networks breaking news unit manager.

Smith was the host of "Shephard Smith Reporting" for 17 years which was in the 3 p.m. E.T. time slot. Many of the Fox News viewers as well as President Trump were hard on Smith.

After his departure earlier this month President Trump mocked him and said the reason he is out is because of "bad ratings."

“Is he leaving because of bad ratings? Tell me, I don’t know,” President Trump said at the time. “If he’s leaving, I assume he’s leaving because he had bad ratings.”

The anchors do get kicked around from network to network, so this is nothing uncommon. Many often wondered why Smith was even on right-leaning Fox News.
