Later this year, Costco is making a big change to its iconic $1.50 hot dog combo.
At Thursday’s annual shareholder meeting, the wholesale giant confirmed it’s switching from Pepsi back to Coca-Cola. This comes after weeks of online rumors about a possible food court update.
“This summer, we will be converting our food court fountain business back over to Coca-Cola,” said Costco CEO Ron Vachris.
Costco originally made the switch to Pepsi in 2013. The goal back then was to keep the hot dog combo price locked at $1.50, despite rising costs.
Over the years, Costco has raised prices on other food court items. But the hot dog combo has stayed the same since 1985. Co-founder James Sinegal once famously told former CEO Craig Jelinek, “I will kill you” when Jelinek suggested raising the price.
This isn’t the first time a fast food chain has changed up its drink selection. In 2023, In-N-Out added Cherry Coke and “lite pink” lemonade to its lineup. It was the first drink update in five years.
