Costco Recalls Popular Snack Over Possible Contamination

Thousands of pounds of Costco tuna poke are being pulled from shelves after testing revealed a dangerous contamination.

Western United Fish Company, also known as Annasea Foods Group, announced the recall of 3,314.7 pounds of Kirkland Signature Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke. The issue? Green onions inside the product tested positive for listeria monocytogenes, according to the FDA.

The company said the alert came from its green onion supplier after a Sept. 17 test. “We are continuing to work with our green onion supplier to determine the root cause,” Annasea Foods said in a statement.

The recalled poke was sold in clear plastic clamshell containers with the Kirkland Signature label. It carries Costco item number 17193, with a pack date of Sept. 18, 2025, and a sell-by date of Sept. 22. The affected products were distributed in the deli sections of Costco warehouses across more than 30 states.

Listeriosis symptoms range from mild to severe. The FDA said the non-invasive form can cause fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and muscle aches, typically lasting one to three days. Invasive listeriosis, the more serious form, can cause confusion, headaches, stiff neck, balance issues, and convulsions. Pregnant women face a heightened risk of severe complications.

The recall spans a wide area, hitting states from coast to coast — including California, Texas, New York, Florida, Virginia, Washington, and more than two dozen others.

Customers who purchased the recalled tuna poke are urged not to eat it and should return it to Costco for a refund.
