A CVS store located on H Street NE in Washington, D.C., has adopted a new policy for distributing toilet paper. Due to incidents of theft, reportedly by homeless individuals, the store has removed toilet paper from its regular shelves. Customers now need to request it from employees, who retrieve it from the store's backroom.
This change in policy was highlighted in a report by WTOP news.

According to data from the Metropolitan Police Department, there has been a 68% increase in reported robberies in 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. So far in 2023, there have been over 3,000 robberies, significantly higher than the 1,791 recorded by this time in 2022.
Additionally, the data indicates that there were 2,046 robberies in 2021. Ben Atanga, a wellness studio owner in Maryland, commented on this issue, stating that it is a problem affecting the entire nation.
"First, I want to say this: this is not just an H street or a D.C. problem — this is something that’s going on all over the country, right?" Atanga said. "The economy is going up, cost of living is going up … If people are stealing … items, necessities, you know, I think maybe we should take a look at that.
"Maybe those are things that we don’t increase or maybe as a community we provide that … ‘Hey look, you can come pick up toiletries and stuff like that, so that you can take care of yourself.’ H Street has always had a huge homeless population," he continued.
