On Monday, Howard Stern, the host of SiriusXM radio, criticized Kid Rock and Travis Tritt for their strong opposition to Budweiser's campaign featuring transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney.
Anheuser-Busch, the beer maker, received criticism from consumers and critics last week due to their partnership with Mulvaney, a transgender activist. The company sent a pack of Bud Light cans to Mulvaney, celebrating her "full year of girlhood," to be promoted on social media. This move was met with backlash from those who are against the "woke" culture.
In response to the gesture, Rock used Bud Light cans as target practice and declared his opposition by saying, "Forget Bud Light and Anheuser-Busch!" only you can replace forget with another word. Similarly, country singer Travis Tritt took to Twitter to announce that he would be removing Anheuser-Busch products from his tour hospitality rider.
Stern expressed surprise at the reactions, stating that he was not bothered by companies that chose to promote a transgender spokesperson.
Howard Stern 'dumbfounded' over Kid Rock's Bud Light protest: 'Why are you so upset about this?' https://t.co/lGOglGGurq
— Fox News (@FoxNews) April 11, 2023
"I thought there must be a piece of this story that I’m missing," Stern said on his show Monday. "I’m not bothered by gay people or transsexual people. They don’t impact my life, they don’t hurt my life. I love when people are in love. You wanna be a woman? Be a woman. You wanna be a dude, be a dude. Be whatever you want. As long as you ain’t hurting anybody, I’m on your team," he said.
Stern disclosed that he wished to hear from Kid Rock himself about why he was displeased with the partnership.
"I wish I could call Kid Rock and have him come on the show and just tell me ‘Why are you so upset about this? How is it hurtful?’ I don’t know why he got so upset," Stern said.
Stern was perplexed as to why Rock would be concerned with the company's activism, given his level of success.
"Kid Rock, I know him. He’s got a great life. He transitioned from some kid in Michigan to a rock superstar! I’m really dumbfounded by why someone would care so much that they would blow up a can of Bud Light and say, ‘Forget Anheuser-Busch.’ I don’t get it."
