Pat Sajak Under Fire After Making Fun of a Contestant's Fear

Pat Sajak is facing intense scrutiny for having a little harmless fun with the fear of a contestant on the show he hosts, "The Price is Right." This has many of us wondering if humor is dead.

After a recent episode of "Wheel of Fortune" included a segment that was widely criticized and condemned, the long-time game show host may agree that humor is dead.

During a recent episode, the 76-year-old Sajak met a contestant named Ashley, who shared that she suffers from acute ichthyophobia, which is a fear of fish.

Sajak saw an opportunity for some light-hearted teasing due to this unique phobia. A clip showcasing some of Sajak's humor during the episode can be seen below:

“You don’t like fish,” Sajak said to Ashley. “You don’t like to eat them, you don’t like to swim with them?”

“Nothing,” Ashley fired back. “[I want] Nothing to do with them, at all. If they’re on a plate or in the water, I am not going to be anywhere near it.”

When Sajak attempted to learn more about Ashley's unusual phobia, she appeared disinterested in engaging with the topic.

“Were you frightened by a fish as a little girl?” Sajak asked.

“It’s a long story, Pat,” Ashley said. "We don't have time."

Before the final round, Sajak had one last playful joke for Ashley. As he was about to congratulate her for reaching the final round, he handed a fake plastic fish to another contestant, joking that he didn't want Ashley to see it due to her phobia.

Upon seeing the fake fish, Ashley reacted by recoiling in response.

After the video went viral, people online had a range of reactions to Sajak's actions, with some criticizing his behavior while others found it humorous.

“Is he slipping into dementia slowly?? Or does he know he’s retiring soon so he just doesn’t care anymore?” one person commented on the Instagram post.

“The comedy genius of Pat Sajak is… Unparalleled!” a supporter of Sajak commented.

“I’ve watched wheel of Fortune on a daily basis for most of my life. Tonight’s episode was just so wild. The fake fish thing at the end…never have I ever seen Pat pull these kinds of shenanigans. And you know he likes to be the funny guy,” another user, who perhaps has too much time on their hands, commented.

Sajak has announced his retirement, so maybe he's going to use his last episodes to see how many feathers he can ruffle on the show. If that's the case it could make the show that airs after Jeopardy become more entertaining than ever.
