Hundreds of veterans nationwide are backing former Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard for director of national intelligence under President-elect Donald Trump’s second administration, Fox News Digital reports.
"President Trump’s choice of Tulsi Gabbard shows a deep respect for her dedication to our nation and her commitment to protecting the American people," states a letter titled "American Veterans for Tulsi Gabbard." The letter highlights her fearless congressional career and her veteran status, shaped by combat service and lifelong devotion to the country.
Over 250 veterans signed the letter, including notable names like retired Gen. Michael Flynn, former Defense Secretary Chris Miller, Arizona Rep. Eli Crane, Florida Rep. Brian Mast, and commentator Jack Posobiec.
"Tulsi answered the call of duty after 9/11, enlisting in the Army and leaving her position as a Hawaii State Representative to deploy to Iraq," the letter recounts. "She volunteered for a medical unit, confronting the brutal realities of war firsthand."
The letter emphasizes her continued service. Gabbard has spent 22 years standing with fellow servicemembers, including her time in Congress, where she was a fierce advocate for veterans' health issues and toxic exposure care.
"Her life reflects rare selflessness, courage, and leadership—traits urgently needed to reform our intelligence community," it continues, praising her track record of championing veterans and national security.
Of the veterans who signed, nearly 70% worked in special operations or intelligence. About 54% are retired, with most signers having seen combat, according to Fox News Digital.
Trump nominated Gabbard shortly after his election win, citing her "fearless spirit" and belief in "Peace through Strength." As director of national intelligence, she would oversee U.S. intelligence operations and advise the president on security matters.
Gabbard, a lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserves, served 17 years in the Hawaii Army National Guard. She represented Hawaii in Congress from 2012 to 2021 before stepping down to run for president.
After leaving the Democratic Party in 2022, Gabbard registered as an independent. This year, she joined the GOP and endorsed Trump, further cementing her role in his administration.
