Can you imagine an astroid that is bigger than any man-made structure on Earth? Well that is how large the one barreling towards earth is.
Don't worry though, it's still going to miss us by a few thousand miles! Thank goodness too, because if it DID hit earth, it would likely cause mass extinction and a nuclear winter. However, we need not be concerned because it is going to pass by planet earth by about 3.6 million miles on Saturday morning according to International Business Times.
NASA’s Center for Near-Earth Object Studies identified the asteroid as 163373 (2002 PZ39). It is estimated to have a diameter of approximately 3,250 feet, making it larger than the Burj Dubai, which is currently the tallest building in the world.
The asteroid has been labeled a “Potentially Hazardous Asteroid” by NASA. It is an Apollo asteroid, which means it will intersect Earth’s path around the sun.
NASA’s reports, “Potentially Hazardous Asteroids (PHAs) are currently defined based on parameters that measure the asteroid’s potential to make threatening close approaches to the Earth.”
NASA currently estimates that the asteroid will pass by the planet on Saturday at 6:05 a.m. EST, the International Business Times reported.
I wonder if we will be able to see it or not.
