New Jersey Democrat Who Opposes Trump Impeachment Plans to Switch to Republican Party

New Jersey U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew is set to switch sides and become a Republican. This decision was made after meeting with President Trump on Friday at the White House.

Van Drew spokeswoman Mackenzie Lucas was reached for comment but did not immediately respond.

Van Drew was one of two House Democrats who voted against the investigation into whether or not President Trump should be impeached.

President Trump noticed the vote and mentioned it on Twitter.

Van Drew said that instead of wasting all of this time and energy on an impeachment that will be acquitted by the Republican-controlled Senate, we should wait until November to determine President Trump's political future.

This wasn't the first time Trump mentioned Van Drew on Twitter. Back in September Trump praised Van Drew for opposing the inquiry.

When Van Drew switches parties it will double the number of Republicans in the state's congressional delegation. He would join Rep. Chris Smith as the only two Republicans.

It's incredible the Democrats think this impeachment inquiry is going to have any impact on President Trump's re-election 2020. All it is doing is unifying the party even more with President Trump.
