Piers Morgan didn’t hold back during a FOX News appearance today, taking a flamethrower to Stephen Colbert after news of The Late Show’s cancelation. Morgan called Colbert a “whiny one-trick pony” and said the cancelation was “completely justified.”
Morgan seemed genuinely baffled that Colbert’s massive writing staff still churns out the same tired anti-Trump material night after night. “This is what $60 million a year gets you?” he quipped. “It’s lazy, boring, and completely out of touch.”
The British commentator wasn’t alone. Other panelists joined in, mocking a recent pro-Colbert protest that fizzled out almost as soon as it started. Footage showed just a handful of people milling around with signs — not exactly a groundswell of support.
Morgan pointed to the public’s growing fatigue with politicized comedy. “People are sick of being preached to. Colbert lost the room a long time ago,” he said. “He’s not funny anymore — he’s just angry.”
The critique came days after CBS announced it was pulling the plug on The Late Show after the upcoming season. Network execs blamed slumping ratings and plunging ad revenue. In just a few years, Colbert’s audience dropped from over 3 million to under 2 million.
While some Democrats have claimed the move was politically motivated, Morgan disagreed. “This wasn’t censorship. It was reality,” he said. “He stopped being entertaining, and viewers walked away.”
The segment ended with Morgan laughing off suggestions that Colbert had become some kind of late-night martyr. “He didn’t go down swinging — he just faded out,” Morgan said. “And frankly, good riddance.”
Love him or hate him, Piers Morgan was right about this one. Colbert’s act was stale, smug, and painfully predictable. America’s ready to change the channel.
