Hundreds of nude protestors took to the streets of Portland on Sunday, staging what they called an emergency “die-in” to protest President Donald Trump’s mass deportation plan.
The demonstrators — many of them regulars from the city’s World Naked Bike Ride — ditched their clothes and pedaled through downtown before collapsing on a bridge, pretending to be dead. The protest was meant to symbolize resistance to Trump’s decision to deploy troops to Portland amid growing clashes with anti-ICE activists.
Photos from the event showed armed federal agents standing on the roof of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement building, watching as the naked crowd gathered below.
According to the Associated Press, the group usually rides to promote climate action each summer but said this time “there was an urgent need” to oppose Trump’s plan.
“We’re here today because we strongly believe that we do not need federal troops in Portland or in Oregon at all,” one participant named Ashley told Fox 12.
“It is electric, so fun, it’s so Portland. Just keeping everything weird,” another protester, Saturn, said.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt mocked the demonstration on X, writing, “If you think this is crazy, congratulations, you’re a Republican!”
The nude protest came after weeks of violent anti-ICE unrest in Portland, where demonstrators have thrown rocks, fireworks, and set fires near federal property. Last month, an illegal immigrant was arrested for allegedly pointing a laser at a Customs and Border Protection helicopter.
In response, Trump announced on Truth Social that he had ordered Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to deploy troops to “War ravaged Portland” to protect the city from “Antifa and other domestic terrorists.” He authorized “Full Force, if necessary.”
Hegseth then approved a plan to federalize 200 Oregon National Guard soldiers. But a federal judge temporarily blocked the deployment. The city now awaits an appeals court ruling that will determine whether Trump can move forward with the order.
