President Donald Trump has appointed Fox News personality Judge Jeanine Pirro as the interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, he announced Thursday on Truth Social.
“I am pleased to announce that Judge Jeanine Pirro will be appointed interim United States Attorney for the District of Columbia,” Trump wrote. “Jeanine is incredibly well qualified for this position, and is considered one of the Top District Attorneys in the History of the State of New York. She is in a class by herself.”
Pirro is stepping down from her role as co-host of Fox News’ The Five, where she has been a prominent figure since 2022. A rotation of Fox News contributors will temporarily fill her seat until a permanent replacement is named.
“Jeanine Pirro has been a wonderful addition to The Five over the last three years and a longtime beloved host across FOX News Media who contributed greatly to our success throughout her 14-year tenure. We wish her all the best in her new role in Washington,” a Fox News spokesperson said in a statement.
Pirro previously served as both assistant district attorney and district attorney in Westchester County, New York, where she also became the first woman to serve as a judge on the Westchester County Court.
She joined Fox News Channel in 2006, hosting Justice with Judge Jeanine for more than a decade before transitioning to The Five. The show has consistently ranked as one of the highest-rated programs on cable news.
Trump also announced that outgoing interim U.S. Attorney Ed Martin will take on several new roles within the Department of Justice, including Director of the Weaponization Working Group, Associate Deputy Attorney General, and Pardon Attorney.
“In these highly important roles, Ed will make sure we finally investigate the Weaponization of our Government under the Biden Regime, and provide much needed Justice for its victims,” Trump wrote.
Trump withdrew Martin’s nomination for permanent U.S. Attorney after determining he lacked enough Senate support for confirmation. “He wasn't getting the support from people that I thought,” Trump said. “He’s done a very good job. Crime is down 25% in D.C. during this period of time.”
The decision to replace Martin came as the administration faced a May 20 deadline to confirm a nominee before federal district court judges could step in and appoint an interim themselves.
