Senator Ted Cruz laid into companies who are choosing to mandate the COVID-19 vaccine for their employees. He warned that they are making a big mistake and that people have the right to be respected in making their own health decisions.
"My view on COVID, it is a serious disease," Cruz told CNBC's "Squawk Box" on Tuesday. "We, as a country, have taken extraordinary steps. We've also imposed enormous harms on our economy and people's lives and livelihoods and families. We need to balance those appropriately."
He noted that both he and his wife and their parents have been vaccinated, and he urged Americans to do so as well. However, he argued that “individual freedom” is important to maintain.
"I don't think anyone should make you take the vaccine," Cruz said. "You should be able to make your own medical decision with your doctor. I have faith they will weigh with pros and cons and make a determination whether or not to take the vaccine."
"How would you feel if CNBC had a series of medical procedures they demanded you do as a standard of your employment?" he asked CNBC co-anchor Andrew Ross Sorkin. "You would understandably be dismayed. You may make a decision in consultation with your doctor about the things that make sense but it is not your employer's job to force it on you."
Cruz added about the vaccine, "I believe in them and encourage people to voluntarily take it. If somebody doesn't take the vaccine, they pose relatively little threat to me or someone else that is vaccinated. They may pose a threat to someone else unvaccinated. They made that choice. If you smoke cigarettes, we give people to make decisions about their own health even if they don't approve."

Great men are almost exclusively bad men, even where they exercise influence and not authority,” Cruz said, pulling from a series of letters to Bishop Craig from Lord Acton. He added that “those words were true in 1887, and they’re true today.”

"I think it's a bit of an overreach," she told Newsmax on Friday. "You are seeing (Speaker) Nancy Pelosi try to pull another power play. Bear in mind, since last March of 2020, what have we heard from these guys. They want lockdowns. They want you to wear gloves, to mask up, to socially distance."
Rep. Steve Scalise: Democrats are 'Throwing Science Out the Window'
On Friday, Rep. Steve Scalise declared that Democrats are ''throwing science out the window'' in regards to COVID and mask mandates.
''If you look at this, you know that the science is being thrown out the window a lot of times because a lot of these Democrats wanted the (COVID-related) shutdowns last year, they wanted to keep kids out of schools, and you see some of them trying to lay the groundwork for that to happen again. That can't happen again," he told Newsmax. ''The science says...
