In Minneapolis, a new teachers union contract has determined that it's completely okay to lay off teachers based on race, but only if their race is white.
Seriously.
One of the proposals in the contract dealt with “educators of color protections.” Here's the information regarding it:
"Starting with the Spring 2023 Budget Tie-Out Cycle, if excessing a teacher who is a member of a population underrepresented among licensed teachers in the site, the District shall excess the next least senior teacher, who is not a member of an underrepresented population."
By excessing they mean "laying off." That's just a fancy way of putting it. So basically the teachers are listed in seniority. But if the person at the bottom of the list is white, they keep working their way up the list until they find a teacher who is white.
“The [collective bargaining agreement] … openly discriminates against white teachers based only on the color of their skin, and not their seniority or merit,” Dickey said to Alpha News. “Minneapolis teachers and taxpayers who oppose government-sponsored racism like this should stand up against it.”
According to a report from the Star Tribune, roughly 16% of MPS teachers with tenure and 27% of its probationary teachers are non-white, while more than 60% of students are non-white.
How is this called anything but extremely racist?
