President Donald Trump offered some classic advice Friday after a viral video showed French first lady Brigitte Macron shoving her husband, President Emmanuel Macron, in the face. His take? “Make sure the door remains closed.”
The quip came during a press conference with Elon Musk, when Fox News’ Peter Doocy asked Trump if he had any “marital advice” for the French leader. Trump didn't hesitate with his response.
“That was … not good,” he added. “I spoke to [Macron], he’s fine, they’re fine, they’re two really good people, I know them very well. I don’t know what that was all about, but I know them very well, and they’re fine.”
Later in the same press conference, Musk was asked about a bruise above his eye. The tech mogul cracked a joke, “Well, I wasn’t anywhere near France,” saying the injury came from roughhousing with his son, X.
The humor didn’t quite land with one reporter, who pushed Musk to explain the joke. Musk shrugged it off and moved on.
The viral clip of Macron and his wife exiting a plane in Vietnam has taken the internet by storm. Brigitte appeared to shove him in the face just before they stepped onto the tarmac.
Macron noticed the cameras and quickly smiled and waved, trying to play it cool. But the awkward moment had already been captured.
When asked about it, Macron brushed it off. “I was bickering, or rather joking, with my wife. It’s nothing,” he said.
An Elysee Palace official backed him up, calling it a “moment” of light teasing before the trip began. The French president and first lady seemed eager to move past the spotlight.
