President Donald Trump is urging illegal immigrants to "self-deport" using a new DHS app. Axios reported Monday that the CBP Home app is replacing the Biden-era CBP One app.
Trump will release a video this week on social media with the message. He’ll call on illegal immigrants to use the app to report their departure. DHS introduced the app after ending CBP One, which allowed migrants into the U.S.
"People in our country can self-deport the easy way, or they can get deported the hard way, and that's not pleasant," Trump says in the video.
He slams the Biden administration for using CBP One to admit over a million illegal immigrants. "Now, my administration is launching the CBP Home app to give people in our country illegally an easy way to leave now and self-deport voluntarily," he says.
Trump makes the stakes clear. "If they do, they will have the opportunity to potentially return legally at some point in the future," he continues. "But if they do not avail themselves of this opportunity, then they will be found. They will be deported, and they will never be admitted to the United States ever, ever again."
He also calls the app the "safest option" for all involved. It will help law enforcement focus on deporting violent criminals.
The CBP Home app allows illegal immigrants to submit their intent to leave. It also lets them verify their departure. But this function is only for those who entered the U.S. through Biden’s parole program.
Trump’s administration is moving quickly to expand deportations. It has also slashed the number of migrants entering under humanitarian parole.
On his first day, Trump ended the use of CBP One for parole. His administration also paused parole applications and allowed ICE to cancel parole statuses.
Last month, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem took further action. She ended the use of CBP One for migrants boarding domestic flights—except for self-deportation. The administration also canceled extensions of Temporary Protected Status for some nationalities.
