On Wednesday, President Donald Trump spoke to the press at the White House and warned young Americans that they should not be gathering at the beach and in bars. This is not an extended spring break party. While we should not live in fear, we also should also be wise. Stay home.
“We don’t want them gathering and I see they do gather, including on beaches, including in restaurants,” Trump said. “Young people, they don’t realize, they’re feeling invincible.”
When Reuters reporter Jeff Mason informed Trump that many of the Americans who aren't following his advice are his supporters.
“We’re going to win this and we’re going to win it and it’s just a question of time and I want it to go quickly,” Trump responded. “So based on the fact that I want it to go quickly, I hope they just listen to what we’ve been saying over the last period of time.”
The president reiterated that if young people catch the virus, it may not affect them, but it could spread to their parents and grandparents. That is why it's important to self-isolate.
“We want them to heed the advice,” he added. “I think it’s getting through.”
