Two consecutive quarters of negative GDP has always meant the U.S. is in a recession. Well, until the Biden administration took over.
“In terms of the technical definition, it’s not a recession. The technical definition considers a much broader spectrum of data points,” White House economic adviser Brian Deese said before the official recession data came out according to Fox News.
Brian Deese hasn't always held this opinion. In 2008 Deese wrote, “economists have a technical definition of recession, which is two consecutive quarters of negative growth.”
Not anymore, according to the White House.
Former late-night host Conan O’Brien, who isn't anything even approaching conservative, is making fun of the Democrats for their refusal to acknowledge we are in a recession.

Tucker Carlson of Fox News had a very interesting view as to why the Biden administration is redefining recession. During his Thursday show Carlson said he is trying to get Americans to “lower your expectations of America.”

Instead of acknowledging we are in a recession, the Democrats have spent the week celebrating their accomplishments. West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin and Chuck Schumer have come to a deal on the Build Back Better plan, except now it's known as the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. How convenient is that?
Just what we need to get out of a recession. Mass amounts of government spending.
