Video of Dog Exploring Hamas Tunnel Goes Viral

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) recently shared a video that quickly became popular. It was released on Friday and shows one of their dogs exploring a tunnel in the Gaza Strip, which belongs to Hamas.

“A tunnel route — used as an underground base by the Hamas terrorist organization — was uncovered by our troops beneath the area of Issa within Gaza City. This multi-level structure served as an underground post — for storage, hideouts, command and control, and movement of operatives between different areas — and has since been destroyed by troops. Watch the IDF’s K-9 Unit reveal the hundreds of meters long tunnel network,” the IDF posted to X.

The video, which has already been watched over 100,000 times on Twitter, shows a dog from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) running through a tunnel. The dog is part of the IDF's Oketz unit, which specializes in counter-terrorism, search and rescue, and other specific tasks. The video highlights the dog exploring the tunnel and finding things like an electricity box, a blast door, and hiding spots.

There was a sad incident reported by Ynet where GoPro footage from a dog that belonged to the IDF showed hostages crying for help in Hebrew. This happened during the war between Israel and Hamas. The footage was found three days after these hostages were mistakenly killed by IDF soldiers on December 15. The hostages, Samer Talalka, Alon Shamriz, and Yotam Haim, were reportedly killed by friendly fire.

The conflict between Hamas and Israel began when Hamas invaded southern Israel on October 7, leading to the death of about 1200 Israelis and the capture of over 200 hostages, including Americans. Israel reacted with military action and sent troops into the Gaza Strip.

There was a short pause in the fighting on December 1, but it ended when Hamas released some hostages. Israel claimed Hamas broke the ceasefire agreement and responded with airstrikes.
