White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre has parted ways with her partner of more than a decade, Suzanne Malveaux.
In a conversation with Vogue magazine, Jean-Pierre disclosed her split from the ex-CNN national correspondent. The duo has a nine-year-old adopted daughter named Soleil.

“I’m a single mom who is co-parenting this amazing kid,” Jean-Pierre said. “Our number-one priority is her privacy and to make sure we create an environment that’s nurturing.”
Malveaux's earlier role at CNN prompted concerns of a potential conflict of interest when she maintained her position at the network, even as Jean-Pierre became the White House press secretary in May 2022. Taking over the role, Jean-Pierre succeeded former press secretary Jen Psaki, who resigned on May 15, 2022. By January 2023, Malveaux had departed from CNN.
The two first crossed paths at the Democratic National Convention in 2012, as reported by The Independent. Following their meeting, they welcomed their adopted daughter, Soleil, in May 2014, with Malveaux spearheading the adoption process, as mentioned in Vogue.
Jean-Pierre told Vogue that although becoming a parent was once “a thousand percent” off her radar, she now commits herself to be the kind of parent she once yearned for.
“We talk about her feelings all the time,” she said to Vogue. “I ask her all the time, ‘Are you happy? How’s it going?’ and she’ll tell me. That’s the nice part—being the parent that you wish you had,” she says. “My parents were amazing, but they were trying to survive.”
