An Ohio resident was sentenced in a unique way after being convicted of assault for hurling a burrito bowl at a Chipotle staff member.
On Nov. 28, Parma Municipal Court's Judge Timothy Gilligan handed down a sentence to Rosemary Hayne, aged 39, following her conviction on an assault charge. Hayne initially faced a financial penalty and a jail term of 180 days, with half of the sentence suspended. However, Judge Gilligan, considering the specific circumstances of her offense, offered her a chance to further lessen her jail time by empathizing with her victim's experience.
“You didn’t get your burrito bowl the way you like it, and this is how you respond?” Judge Gilligan said during sentencing, as reported by local Fox affiliate WJW. “This is not ‘Real Housewives’ of Parma. This behavior is not acceptable.”
During the sentencing, Judge Gilligan offered Hayne a reduction of 60 days in her jail sentence, contingent on her agreement to work a minimum of 20 hours per week at a fast-food restaurant for two months. Hayne agreed to these terms.
Hayne's initial arrest occurred on Sept. 5 following an incident where she threw a burrito bowl at Emily Russell, a former employee of Chipotle. The event was captured on video by a witness and subsequently shared on Reddit, where it attracted significant attention.

The video shows Hayne engaged in a heated argument with Russell, forcefully placing her order on the counter. The dispute escalates, and after roughly a minute, Hayne throws the entire burrito bowl at Russell's face, eliciting gasps from those watching. An older woman attempts to intervene, but Hayne pushes past her to exit the establishment.
Witnesses at the scene noted Hayne's license plate number and informed the police. Subsequently, authorities arrested Hayne at her residence.
