Bernie Pledges to 'Wage War on Nationalism'

Are you feeling the Bern? Don't worry, neither are we!

On Saturday, Senator Bernie Sanders spoke at the Young Leader's Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. During his speech, the 2020 presidential candidate declared that he will be waging a war on both white nationalism and racism if he wins the election.

Sanders said, “I’m Jewish. My family came from Poland. My father’s whole family was wiped out by Hitler and his white nationalism. Too many people have fought over the years. Too many people have died against racism to let it resurface and flourish in America.”

“We will go to war with nationalism and racism in every aspect of our lives.” He added, “When we combat white nationalism, and when we combat racism, we are going to use all the laws in our power.”

So which is it? Is he going to war with nationalism or white nationalism? The poor ol guy either doesn't know the difference between the two or he deceivingly uses the two terms interchangeably.

There is a difference in being a nationalist and then a white nationalist. A nationalist is simply someone who "strongly identifies with their own nation and vigorously supports its interests." A white nationalist is a person who "seeks to develop and maintain a white national identity."

Yes, white supremacy is disgusting. However, there is absolutely nothing wrong with being a nationalist and being passionately patriotic for your country.
