Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake were in a high-profile relationship from 1999 to 2002. In her forthcoming memoir, "The Woman in Me," Spears shares that she became pregnant during their time together. She further claims that upon hearing about the pregnancy, Timberlake persuaded her to terminate it.
"It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn’t a tragedy," Spears wrote in an excerpt shared with People magazine only. "I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated."
Spears continued, "But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young."
She mentions that ultimately, she chose to follow Timberlake's advice.
"I’m sure people will hate me for this, but I agreed not to have the baby. I don’t know if that was the right decision. If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father."
Spears confessed, "To this day, it’s one of the most agonizing things I have ever experienced in my life."
Spears and Timberlake first crossed paths during their time on the Disney Channel's "The All New Mickey Mouse Club" as youngsters. Even though they were quite young when they met, Timberlake later shared with GQ, "I was in love with her from the start. I was infatuated with her from the moment I saw her."
Post the show's conclusion, their journeys took them in different directions, but fate soon guided them both to pop stardom – and once again, to one another.
In 1999, as Spears launched "… Baby One More Time" and Timberlake enjoyed his status as the beloved member of the renowned boy band NSYNC, the duo started their romantic relationship. By 2002, with her at 20 and him at 21, they decided to part ways.
Spears later welcomed two sons: Sean in 2005 and Jayden in 2006, during her marriage to Kevin Federline.
Meanwhile, Timberlake has two sons, Silas, 8, and Phineas, 3, with his spouse Jessica Biel.
