Mayor Pete Buttigieg had a lot to say during the Democratic presidential primary debate on Thursday, and none of it was any value. Now he is claiming that any person who supports President Trump is also "supporting racism."
Oh spare me the drama.
When debate moderator Jorge Ramos asked Buttigieg, “Eight out of 10 Latinos in Texas fear another mass shooting targeted them. This is according to a new Univision pool. President Trump has called Mexican immigrants rapists and killers, tried to ban Muslims from entering this country, separated children from their parents. He supporters have chanted ‘build a wall’ and ‘send her back.’ Do you think people who support President Trump and his immigration policies are racist?
The 2020 hopeful responded, “Anyone who supports this is supporting racism.”
“The only people, though, who actually buy into this president’s hateful rhetoric around immigrants are people who don’t know any." He added, "We have an opportunity to build an American majority around immigration reform.”
Here is the clip:
This isn't the first time that he's said Trump supporters are racist though. Just last month he said that anyone who votes for Trump in 2020 is "looking the other way on racism." I wonder if he even knows what racism actually is or if he's just pulling that card because that's what all the other Democrats do.
Buttigieg isn't the only one who tosses the word around. Beto O'Rourke also said last month that he has a "really hard" time not seeing Trump supporters as racist.
"I think it's really hard after everything that we've seen from his time as a candidate in 2016 to his repeated warnings of invasions to his repeated calls to send them back," O'Rourke said. "Sending back people who are U.S. citizens, sending back people who were born in this country."
He added that Trump's "description of white nationalists and klansmen and neo-Nazis as very fine people, his warnings of Muslims as being somehow inherently defective and attempting to ban them from entry into this country, and his transgender troop ban and his attack on anyone who does not look like or pray like or love like a majority of the country."
